Digital Imaging Software:
Brief:
The brief for my assignment is to create a DVD package for a film or video game of your choice.
I have decided to create a dvd package, i will do this by using adobe, photoshop, illuastrater and premier. I hope to create this package with out using to manh copy righted products.
for this project i have to create a DVD label wrap, a disc label which will be created in Photoshop and illustrater, they must contain a logo. I will have to demonstrate using pen tool, type tool, placing images, brushes, clipping masks, guides, layers, transparencies, text wrap. I will submit this in the correct format when I've completed it.
I also need to create a promotinal trailer, using Premiere.
I will create this by using images from my dvd wrap and label as well as videos from the internet.
below is a sample of all stages of my dvd pakage.
(A) Create a DVD case wrap for an Amaray-style case.

when trying to decide which direction to take this project it was very important to me to pick a subject of which I had a interest, it was also very important to try and come up with a movie that would be relevant.
My favorite kind of movies are action and in particular war movies for example

In our first lesson using photo shop, "which i had nether touched before" we looked at some of the diffiernet tools including the burn, magic wand, crop and lasso. by using these tools in class, i came aware just how wideally used photoshop was. i defiently believe that these skills will help me advance with my poject.
Copyright is an automatic right and does not require the author to file special paperwork,
as is the case for trademark and patent. Registration is required to
enforce the rights, but as a matter of right, an author is not required
to register anything to get the right to use the “circle c,” showing the
work is copyrighted.
One of the many terrific things about copyright is that it comes with a host of exclusive rights that allow the owner to do or authorize a number of things and exercise substantial control over his or her work. The copyright owner has the right to do four things (called exclusive rights):
Fair use is not the same as free use. Fair use is a legal exception to the exclusive rights an person has for there own copyrighted work.
It has little to do with what we may think is fair, and everything to do with keeping the balance tipped in favor of the public interest.

Fair use is to allow people resonable use as long as it does not affect the owners choices.
examples specific to online images.
A classic example of fair use of an image to use online is product reviews. If you want to review a book, a new piece of technology, a food product or whatever, you’ll likely want to include a photo.
Fair use is there, to allow copyrighted works to be used without permission for the benefit of everyone.

the first thing I needed to do was to set up my DVD cover wrap project
in Photoshop using the correct file format and print colour as well as
the correct DPI.
Blog 11
Today I wanted to figure out a title for my movie, I wanted it to be something that got the message across that the west had come to the end of there Patience and that we would not take any more, so I decided to name the movie Enough is Enough I used the horizontal and vertical type tools to make the spine and front cover titles.
I also used the dissolve tool to distort the writing a little so that it was not as crisp on the page,
Blog 12
taking inspiration from the twilight case in blog 5 I decided to have some action pictures from the movie on the back cover this helps give a visual clue to the movie content, and to help the pictures pop I have given them red frames this I did using the rectangle tool and changing the fill colour to red.
i
feel that the over all affect of my dvd cover attracts the eye and
brings in interst, i think that using a black background allows the
details to stand out better.
blog 15
On the disc label you can see that there is a logo which i created using the pen tool as well as type on a path tool, i wanted to add this to the project to give it identification, i also used the type on a path tool to stamp on ownership of the disc. as well as having the picture of the disc i want to give it a strong punchy title, words can be a very strong sword.

in class today we were tought how to filter
colours, we also I also learnt how to use
the patch tool and heal tool along with the spot healing brush tool.
We were asked to take a picture of two people sat on a beach and the amn from the picture, we then used the patch tool to cover the gap int the photo to give the apperance that the man was nether there.

copyright definitition
(The legal bit)
One of the many terrific things about copyright is that it comes with a host of exclusive rights that allow the owner to do or authorize a number of things and exercise substantial control over his or her work. The copyright owner has the right to do four things (called exclusive rights):
- Reproduce the copyrighted work;
- Display the copyrighted work publicly;
- Prepare derivative works based on the copyrighted work; and
- Distribute copies of the copyrighted work to the public by sale, rental or lending, and/or to display the image.
However there is one significant legal construct that allows millions of people every day to see and share images online.
Fair use definition
(The legal bit)
It has little to do with what we may think is fair, and everything to do with keeping the balance tipped in favor of the public interest.

after setting up my project in Photoshop i also wanted to set up the guides using the correct sizes for a ammry DVD cover Wrap.
Blog 7
Once the
file was set up and the guides were set it was time to start thing about
what my DVD cover wrap would look like, i decided that the cover should
be Black to make everything else stand out on it more clearly make it a
bolder statement. i did this by using the paint bucket fill tool.
Blog 8
The next thing i needed to do was to add some information to my DVD cover wrap including production company and age restriction.
I did this by taking the cover of twilight and using Photoshop I removed all the irreverent information and images.
Blog 9
The next thing I need to do was to add some art work to the
front cover, I wanted something that would stick out and make people
thing about terrorist attacks, so I decided to use a image of the twin
towers as I felt that this was probably the most known attack on the
western world.
I wanted
to make the picture ghostly looking so I used the polygonal
lasso selection tool to cut the tower and used the transform tool to
edit the size of the image. I then changed the hue saturation to make
the dark of the tower more obvious I also applied linear dodge.
Blog 10
I also wanted to add something to the front cover that would
show that this was a attack on the free world and that the west had been
hurt by these actions, I believe that using the statue of liberty does
this.
I created the image on the front of the DVD Cover wrap by using
the magnetic lasso selection tool and cutting out lady liberty I then
used the dissolve tool and the hue saturation as well as the Luminosity
to create a look that sticks out from everything else.Blog 11
Today I wanted to figure out a title for my movie, I wanted it to be something that got the message across that the west had come to the end of there Patience and that we would not take any more, so I decided to name the movie Enough is Enough I used the horizontal and vertical type tools to make the spine and front cover titles.

taking inspiration from the twilight case in blog 5 I decided to have some action pictures from the movie on the back cover this helps give a visual clue to the movie content, and to help the pictures pop I have given them red frames this I did using the rectangle tool and changing the fill colour to red.
I
then used imported the images and used the transform and scale tool to
fit the images inside the frames. the images i chose were from 3 real
movies based on true story's "lone survivor American sniper and 9/11.
Blog 13
the
next thing i wanted to do was to have a ghostly figure on the back
cover, so i took a photo of two soldiers and used the lasso tool to
delete them and the fill in the rest of the back ground to blend in with
the dvd background and cut and placed on to the good copy of my dvd
case. once in place i dissolved and blurred the edges so that they
appered more faded and less sharp.
Blog 14
the
last thing i need to do to complete the look of my Dvd wrap cover was
to add story writing, to do this i used red ink to make the writig pop
against the background.
blog 15
the
next part of the project was to create the DVD disc label, i want this
to stand out but i also wanted it to be diffierent from the cover and
bring in interst on its own.

We
were instructed in class to save the file for the Photoshop and
illustarter using a JPEG or GIF file. without doing this the files would
not be able to be opened inless the adobe software was installed on the
machine trying to access.
blog 17
in
class we were asked to eveluate a peers work and to give contructed
feed back, below is a valuation of my work upto date by my peer.

Taking
on board all the feed back from my peer and seeing the work that they
had created i proceeded with my project with new light and new
convidence.
blog 18
When creating my trailer I experimented with a lot of the effects to see
which ones would best be suited for my video. Some of the effects I thought about useing, included:
- Brightness and contrast
- Dip in black
- Fade out and zoom
- Razor tool
- Audio- I used loud bass
- Dip in white contrast
- Cross over
- Audio- I used balance
- Sharpened focus
- Blank spaces
- Loud bass for audio effect
i had to miss a lot of time in class when it came to creating my
trailer, so everything i have done to my trailer was created using video
tuturials. I was experimented with diffierent
effects and picked out the most appropiate ones for my video.i feel
that my video is interesting and catches the eye even though it is quite
simple a design.
blog 19
I
found it difficult to safe the video out side pf the program, it is not
as simple as just pressing save, you have to export the media making
sure that all setting were correct and suitable. i needed to change
source range to include the entire video. i chose to use the H264/mp4
format for my trailer this is because mp4 is pretty much the standard
used for videos on the web today. this format allows us to have a high
qualaty video without taking up to much space, blue ray also uses this
format for this reason. i chose the preset of HD720p this was becase
some of my video clips were recoreded in 720p. by chooseing this preset i
told it to use basic video and audio peramiters. i chose i target bit
rate of 5 and a maximum bit rate of 8, this was to make sure that the
trailer did not use up unecessary space. After nameing my video. i
decided to chage the bitrate encding to increase the qualaty of te
video, using VBR2 Pas meens that it will enode the video using a varible
bit rate, where it scans the file on th first pass, then uses this to
fine tune the varibility of the bitrate on the second pass. this meens
that it will take longer to render but will make the final quality much
better.
